Prarancangan Pabrik Metil Ester Sulfonat dari Crude Palm Oil Kapasitas 200.000 ton/tahun

MES (Metil Ester Sulfonat) merupakan produk surfaktan yang digunakan sebagai bahan baku pembersih (detergen), sebagai dispersant pada industri pertanian, emulsifier pada industri plastik, release agent pada industri karet dan kegunan lainnya. Produk surfaktan MES memiliki keunggulan seperti bersifat biodegradable (ramah lingkungan), harga jual yang lebih murah, serta ketersediaan bahan baku yang banyak di Indonesia. Pabrik MES (Metil Ester Sulfonat) dengan kapasitas 200.000 ton/tahun yang didirikan pada Gresik, Jawa Timur, dengan jumlah pekerja 260 orang ini bertujuan untuk memenuhi kebutuhan akan MES. Proses pembuatan MES dapat dikelompokkan menjadi 2 bagian, yaitu bagian esterifikasi-transesterifikasi dan bagian sulfonasi. Proses estertransesterifikasi dijalankan dalam Reaktor Alir Tangki Berpengaduk (RATB) dan Reactive Distillation (RD). Dimana RATB digunakan untuk mereaksikan CPO (Crude Palm Oil) dengan metanol (katalis H2SO4) sehingga kadar FFA (Free Fatty Acid) dalam CPO berkurang 90%, sedangkan RD-02 digunakan untuk mereaksikan CPO (trigliserida) dengan metanol (katalis NaOH) sehingga membentuk gliserol dan Metil Ester (ME). Proses sulfonasi kemudian dijalankan dalam Reaktor Sulfonasi dimana ME hasil RD direaksikan dengan gas SO3 dan menghasilkan MES yang selanjutnya dibutirkan menggunakan Rotary Dryer. Sesuai penjabaran proses di atas, bahan baku yang digunakan untuk memproduksi 200.000 ton/tahun MES (dengan kadar MES 93,72%) yaitu larutan metanol 99,5% sebanyak 17109,7055 ton/tahun, CPO sebanyak 143311,3433 ton/tahun dan gas SO3 sebanyak 73136,3086ton/tahun sebagai reaktan dasar dengan katalis larutan H2SO4 98% sebanyak 1433,1134 ton/tahun dan larutan NaOH 50% sebanyak 24.785,3963 ton/tahun. Produk samping berupa gliserol sebanyak 13863,7837 ton/tahun, Na2SO4 sebanyak 2.076,5521 ton/tahun bisa dijual karena memiliki nilai komersial. Pabrik ini memiliki fixed capital sebesar $92.036.047,10 dan working capital sebesar $67.622.398,88. Production cost sebesar $196.415.971,08. Berdasarkan evaluasi ekonomi yang dilakukan, pabrik MES ini tergolong Low risk dengan nilai ROI 25,80 %, POT 2,79 tahun, BEP 45,56 %, SDP 18,18 %, dan DCFRR 26,60 %. Berdasarkan nilai-nilai diatas, dapat disimpulkan bahwa pabrik ini menguntungkan secara ekonomi dan layak untuk dikaji lebih lanjut.

MES (Methyl Ester Sulfonat) is surfactant product which is widely used as detergent, dispersant on agricultural industry, emulsifier on plastic industry, release agent on rubber industry, and many others. Surfactant from MES has several superiorities such as its bio-degradable properties, affordable selling price, and abundant raw material in Indonesia as well. Methyl Ester Sulfonate Plant with capacity 200.000 ton/year will be built in Gresik, East Java, supported by 260 labors in fulfilling MES demand. MES synthesis is classified into 2 parts; esterification-transesterification, and sulfonation. Esterification transesterification process is run in CSTR (Contiunous Stirred Tank Reactor) and Reactive Distillation (RD). CSTR is placed as vessel to react Crude Palm Oil (CPO) with methanol (H2SO4 catalyst) in purpose suppressing dissolved FFA percentage in CPO reaching into 90%. Meanwhile, RD acts as vessel for reacting CPO (triglyceride)with methanol (NaOH catalyst) which result glycerol and Methyl Ester (ME) as the product. Furthermore, sulfonation process is run inside Sulfonation Reactor where ME (product of RD) is reacted and produced MES that will be dried using Rotary Dryer. Based on the aforementioned explanation, the raw material used to produce 200,000 ton/year MES (93,72% purity) are: 17109.7055 ton/year of methanol solution 99%, 143311.3433 ton/year of CPO, 73136.3086 ton/year of SO3 gas, 1433.1134 ton/year H2SO4 98% as catalyst, and 24785.3963 ton/year of NaOH 50%. Side product is produced during the process 13863.7837 ton/year of glycerol, and 2076.5521 ton/year of Na2SO4 which worth to sell due to its selling price. This plant owns $92,036,047.10 of fixed capital and $67,622,398.88 of working capital. Its production cost is $196,415,971.08. Based on economi evaluation, this MES Plant is categorized as low risk plant within ROI 25.80 %, POT 2.79 years, BEP 45.56 %, SDP 18.18 %, and DCFRR 26.60 %. Those values conclude that the plant gains high profit and attractive to be futher-studied.
