This research was conducted to estimate rumen volume using different liquid markers and rate of passage on Ongole Crossbred cattle fed rice straw . Four female rumen fistulated Ongole Crossbred cattle of 274,5 ± 25 kg body weight were used in this research . Polyethylene Glycol MW 4000 (PEG -4000) and Cr - EDTA as liquid markers were introduced into the rumen through the fistula . Cr-NDF was as solid marker . Rumen liquid and feces samples were collected and analysed of marker quantity . Rumen evacuation was done to estimate rumen volume . The data of estimation of rumen volume were analyzed by one way analysis of variance Completely Randomized Design and Dunnet test were used to compare significant means. The results showed that rumen volume estimated using PEG (40,86 1) and evacuation (53,46 1) were lower (P > 0,01) than that were estimated using Cr-EDTA (84,16 1). There was no significant differences between rumen volume estimated using PEG and evacuation . Estimation of turnover rate using PEG and Cr-EDTA were 7,99 and 3,93%/hour , respectively . Retention time of feed particles in gastrointestinal tract was 81,78hours. Rate constant of particulate matter (Kp) was 1 ,71%/hour . It could be concluded that estimation of rumen volume with PEG was better than Cr-EDTA . Retention time of feed particles of Ongole Crossbred cattle fed rice straw in gastrointestinal tract was relatively long.
