Seiring berjalannya waktu, ada banyak perubahan dalam ekonomi dunia khususnya di Asia yang bertumbuh dengan cepat. Peningkatan jumlah barang dan jasa di dalam dan di luar negara-negara Asia telah membuat Asia menjadi lahan baru yang menjanjikan bagi bisnis untuk bertumbuh. Pertukaran barang dan jasa yang terjadi di pelabuhan menjadikan pelabuhan sebagai tulang punggung perekonomian suatu negara. Penting untuk mempertahankan kinerja pelabuhan yang baik untuk memenuhi permintaan, oleh karena itu identifikasi indikator kinerja sangat diperlukan. Pertumbuhan ekonomi sebagai salah satu indikator kinerja digunakan dalam penelitian ini untuk mengukur kinerja pelabuhan di Asia. Random effect dalam panel data digunakan untuk mengolah data dari 2004 hingga 2017. Tujuan dari penelitian ini yaitu untuk menganalisis dampak pertumbuhan ekonomi terhadap kinerja pelabuhan. Penelitian ini berupaya memahami aktivitas ekonomi mana yang memainkan peran penting dalam menentukan kinerja pelabuhan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pertumbuhan ekonomi secara keseluruhan mempengaruhi kinerja pelabuhan. Secara khusus, PDB suatu negara dapat menjelaskan seberapa baik kinerja pelabuhan, namun rasio ekspor dan impor tidak dapat menjelaskannya.

As time goes by, there have been many changes in the economy of the world especially fast-growing Asia. A rapid increase in the numbers of goods and services within and outside Asian countries has made Asia the new promising land for business to grow. The exchange of goods and services takes place in port makes the port the backbone to the economy of a nation. It is important to maintain a good performance of a port to meet the demands, therefore identifying the performance indicator is necessary. Economic growth as one of the performance indicator is used in this research to measure the performance of Asian ports. Panel data random effect is used to compute data from 2004 to 2017. The aim of this research is to analyze the impact of economic growth on port performance. This research seeks to understand which economic activity plays an important role in determining the performance of a port. The results of the research show that overall economic growth affects the performance of a port. A nations GDP could explain how well a port has performed, however, the ratio of export over import could not explain it
