PENGGUNAAN HANDPHONE DI KALANGAN MAHASISWA (STUDI KASUS DI INSTITUT AGAMA ISLAM NEGERI PALOPO)

Handphone adalah alat komunikasi yang paling digemari saat ini. Alat komunikasi ini memudahkan kita dalam berkomunikasi secara langsung tanpa harus bertatap muka. Penelitian ini mengenai penggunaan handphone di kalangan mahasiswa bertujuan untuk mengetahui penggunaan handphone sebagai gaya hidup di kalangan mahasiswa IAIN Palopo, mengetahui aplikasi apa yang sering diakses oleh mahasiswa IAIN Palopo, dan mengetahui fungsi handphone di kalangan mahasiswa IAIN Palopo. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif, dengan menggunakan teknik pengumpulan data yang berupa wawancara, observasi, kuesioner, dan dokumentasi. Informan dalam penelitian ini adalah mahasiswa IAIN Palopo di Sulawesi Selatan, dan menggunakan kuesioner dengan sekelas berjumlah 32 mahasiswa IAIN Palopo yang jurusan bahasa Arab. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan handphone sudah menjadi gaya hidup di kalangan mahasiswa IAIN Palopo, karena handphone sebagai media komunikasi dan juga media hiburan dianggap menjadi kebutuhan penting dalam sehari-hari. Hasil penelitian ini juga menunjukkan bahwa aplikasi yang sering diakses oleh mahasiswa IAIN Palopo adalah Whatsapp, Facebook, Youtube, Google, Instagram, dan game. Tujuannya untuk berkomunikasi, bisnis, belajar, dan hiburan. Menurut mahasiswa IAIN Palopo, penggunaan handphone sangat mendukung kelancaran kuliah. Meskipun handphone sudah bermanfaat bagi mahasiswa, tetapi juga punya sisi negatif, yaitu: (1) membuat mahasiswa lupa waktu; (2) kurang waktu beristirahat; (3) kesehatan mata menurun; (4) membuat mahasiswa menjadi anti sosial.

Handphone is the most popular communication tool nowadays. This communication tool makes it easier for us to communicate directly and easily without face to face communication. This study is about the use of handphone among students which intends to determine the use of handphone as a lifestyle for students of Palopo IAIN, to find out what applications are often accessed by students of IAIN Palopo, and to know the function of handphone among students of Palopo IAIN. This research uses qualitative methods, with data collection techniques in the form of interviews, observation, questionnaires, and documentation. Informants in this study were students of IAIN Palopo in South Sulawesi and questionnaires with classmates in a total of 32 students of the IAIN Palopo who majored in Arabic. The results of this study indicate that the use of handphone has become a lifestyle for students of IAIN Palopo because handphone as a medium of communication and entertainment media are considered to be important daily necessities. The results of this study also show that applications that are often accessed by Palopo IAIN students are Whatsapp, Facebook, Youtube, Google, Instagram, and games. The goals include communication, business, learning, and entertainment. According to Palopo IAIN students, the use of handphone will greatly support their studies. Although handphone is useful for students daily lives, they also have some negative sides. The negative side effects cover four parties, namely (1) makes students forget time; (2) students are lack of rest time; (3) eye function decreases; (4) makes students become anti-social.
