Ta 'adduduz-zaujat (poligami) diartikan sebagai tindakan Iaki-laki yang menikahi Iebih dari satu istri, dan hidup dengan mereka pada waktu yang sama Masalah ta 'adduduz-zaujat selalu menarik perhatian, tidak saja bagi kaum laki-laki yang sebagian besar menjadikan ta 'adduduz-zaujat sebagai bagian dari obsesinya, namun juga bagi kaum perempuan yang tidak menyukai fa 'adduduzzaujat. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memaparkan model pendekatan dalam konteks penafsiran alQur'an tentang ta 'adduduz-zaujat yang ditawarkan Syahrur dan Abu Zayd. Mereka adalah dua pemikir Islam modern yang mempunyai kerangka berflkir berbeda dalam mendekati ta 'adduduzzaujat, yang pada akhimya berimplikasi pada perbedaan tingkat pemahaman. Penelitian ini diharapkan mampu memberikan altematif pemahaman kritis terhadap berbagai implikasi yang biasa tampil dalam setiap pendekatan penafsiran al-Qur'an tentang ta 'adduduzzaujat. Karena itu, untuk mengungkapkan hal tersebut, dimanfaatkan teori henneneutik dengan metode pendekatan sosio-historis dan fenomenologis. Hermeneutik adalah teori mengenai aturanaturan penafsiran, yaitu penafsiran terhadap teks tertentu atau sekumpulan tanda atau simbol yang dianggap teks. Teori ini bertujuan untuk menghilangkan rnisteri yang terdapat dalam sebuah simbol dengan cara membuka selubung-selubung yang rnenutupinya. Menurut Paul Riceour, hermeneutik membuka makna yang sesungguhnya sehingga dapat mengurangi keanekaan makna dari simbolsimbol. Dari hasil penelitian yang dilakukan, dapat diungkapkan bahwa penafsiran Syahrur dan Abu Zayd dalam persoalan ta 'adduduz-zaujat mernpunyai landasan teologis sama, yaitu surat an-Nisa' (4): 3. Akan tetapi, keduanya berbeda dalam penggunaan metode. Bagi Syahrur dengan teori batas (chudud), ta 'adduduz-zaujiit diperbolehkan dengan syarat: istri kedua, ketiga, dan keempat adalah janda dan rnempunyai anak yatirn. Tujuannya adalah untuk kesejahteraan sosial bagi janda dan anak yatirn. Sementara Abu Zayd dengan hermeneutika Qur'annya rnelarang ta 'adduduz -zaujat karena tidak sesuai dengan prinsip keadilan. Praktek Ia 'adduduz-zaujat bagi Abu Zayd mengandung unsur pengabaian terhadap hakekat kemanusiaan yang rnenuntut persamaan hak dan keadilan. Keadilan yang dituntut dalam ta 'adduduz-zaujat rnenurut Abu Zayd bukan sernata bersifat material, tetapi juga mental. Dasar dilarangnya ta 'adduduz-zaujat terdapat dalam teks surat an-Nisa': 129 dan arRiim: 21. Kata Kunci: Ta 'adduduz-zaujat, Hermeneutik, Sosio-historis, Fenomenologis.

Ta 'adduduz-zaujiit (Arabic wNd for polygamy) is a form of marriage in which a man has more than one spouse at the same time. issue on polygamy is always interesting and has raised massive concern in the public, not only by those men obsessed to conduct polygamy but also by tho:e women who stand against polygamy as believing that it may be harmful for women's status and roles. Two Islamic philosophers, Syahrur and Abu Zayd, offer two different approaches to examine the concept of polygamy in Islam, and therefore lead to djfferent understandings. This research is aimed at explicating the concept of polygamy in Islam as offered by Syahrur and Abu Zayd who employed contextual interpretation approach to examine the subject. Hopefully, the research could be an alternative for critically understanding efforts to interpret Quran, especially in the case of polygamy. Therefore, the author tended to use hermeneutic theory under the framework of sosio-history and fenomenology research. The theory of hermeneutic is regulation of interpretation, interpretation of special text or group of signs or symbol . The subject of this theory loose mistery of symbol and try to open it. According to Paul Riceour, hermeneutic theory opened the reality of meaning hence it reduced kinds of meaning from symbol. Scrutinizing the interpretations offered by Syahriir and Abii Zayd, the author found that both philosophers employed the same theological bases taken from the Quran, Surah 4 verses 3. Further research on their interpretations unveiled that both philosophers used different approaches to interpret the verses. Syahriir, using the theory of limits (chudud), views ta 'adduduz-zaujiit (polygamy) acceptable under conditions that the second, third, and fourth wives are widow and have given birth to kid(s). Syahrur alone based his interpretation on the consideration that polygamy should bring social welfare for widows and orphans. On the other hands, Abii Zayd, who employed hermeneutic approach, views that polygamy does stands against the principle of justice. Polygamy bears nature of neglecting basic human value, that of demanding equal rights and justice. Justice in the case of polygamy is not solely about material justice, but also mental justice at the same time, and therefore, he used Surah 4 verse 129 and Surah 30 verse 21 to underpin the insights.
