Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs Reflected in Percy's Character Development in Rick Riordan's Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief

Percy Jackson dan Dewa-Dewi Olympia: Sang Pencuri Petir menceritakan tentang Percy Jackson, seorang anak berusia dua belas tahun yang menderita Dyslexia. Dia belum mengetahui identitasnya. Akan tetapi, dia dituduh sebagai Pencuri petir Zeus. Percy diberi tugas pencarian dengan teman - temannya untuk mengembalikan petir tersebut. Dalam penecarian itu, Percy berkembang untuk mengetahui lebih tentang identitasnya sebagai Demigod ketika dia menemui beberapa peristiwa - peristiwa yang mempengaruhi perkembangan karakternya. Peneliti tertarik untuk menganalisa kebutuhan - kebutuhan Maslow yang ada di dalam perkembangan karakter Percy ketika dia mengubah kebiasaan dan motivasinya untuk memenuhi kebutuhan - kebutuhannya dari awal cerita sampai akhir. Di dalam penelitian ini, tujuan peneliti adalah memberikan penjelasan tentang refleksi dari hirarki kebutuhan Maslow di dalam perkembangan karakter Percy ketika dia berkembang dari awal cerita sampai akhir. Jadi, Motivasi Percy dan kebutuhan - kebutuhannya berubah seiring dengan perkembangan karakternya. Analisa ini menggunakan pendekatan objektif dan teori hirarki kebutuhan Maslow untuk menunjukkan poin - poin dari perkembangan karakter Percy bersamaan dengan motivasi - motivasinya yang berubah di dalam cerita

Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning thief tells a story about Percy Jackson, a twelve year old kid who suffers Dyslexia. He does not know about his identity yet. However, he is accused to be the thief of Zeus' lightning bolt. Percy is given a quest with his friends to return the lightning bolt. In the quest, Percy grows up to know more about his identity as a demigod as he encounters several events that influence his character development. The researcher is interested to analyze the reflections of Maslow's Needs within Percy's character development as he changes his behaviors and motivations to fulfill his needs when he develops from the beginning of the story to the end. In this research, the researcher's goal is to give explanation about reflection of Hierarchy of Needs within Percy's character development as he grows from the start of the story to the end. Thus, Percy's motivations and needs change in accordance with his character development. The analysis uses objective approach and Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs theory to indicate the points of Percy's character developments as well as his changing motivations and needs in the story
