Average Age According to the Gender Profile of Age-Related Macular Degeneration Patients in Yogyakarta, A Descriptive Study

Latarbelakang: Penyakit Degenerasi Makula Terkait Usia (AMD) merupakan salah satu penyakit yang banyak terjadi pada lansia di seluruh dunia. Salah satu daripada faktor risiko AMD adalah umur, yang mana umur tua menjadi salah satu faktor yang bisa menyebabkan penyakit AMD pada pasien di seluruh dunia. Objektif: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui rata-rata umur menurut jenis kelamin pada pasien AMD di Yogyakarta. Metode: Penelitian ini dilakukan secara deskriptif menggunakan data pasien AMD di RSUP dr. Sardjito, RS Mata Dr. Yap, dan RSPAU dr. S Hardjolukito di Yogyakarta. Data pasien yang sudah didiagnosa dengan AMD dicatat dan dikumpulkan kemudian di hitung rata-rata dan persentase menurut setiap kategori umur dan jenis kelamin. Hasil: Hasil daripada studi ini, rata-rata umur pasien AMD di Yogyakarta bagi laki-laki (67,94 tahun) ditemukan lebih tinggi daripada perempuan (64,15 tahun). Kebanyakan pasien yang didiagnosa dengan AMD merupakan dari kelompok umur 70 tahun dan ke atas dengan 49 orang pasien (41,9%) dan diikuti dengan kelompok umur 60-69 tahun dengan 38 orang pasien (32,5%) dan kelompok umur 50-59 tahun dengan 20 orang pasien (17,0%). Kelompok umur minoritas yang didiagnosa dengan AMD merupakan kelompok umur 49 tahun dan ke bawah dengan 10 orang pasien (8,6%). Rata-rata umur pasien AMD keseluruhannya di Yogyakarta adalah 65,84 tahun.. Kesimpulan: Studi ini menunjukkan kasus AMD terjadi lebih tinggi di kalangan orang lansia. Selain itu, rata-rata umur pasien AMD laki-laki adalah 67,94 tahun dan rata-rata pasien AMD perempuan adalah 64,15 tahun. Background: Age-Related Macular Degeneration has been one of the very common disease that happens to almost every person at an older age in the world. Out of the many risk factors for AMD is the age, where an older age serves as a potential factor of AMD in patients around the world. This study is to find out the average age in relation to the gender profiles of the patients found to have AMD. Objective: To investigate the average age according to the gender profile of Age-Related Macular Degeneration patients in Yogyakarta. Method: This is a descriptive study using data obtained from AMD patients in Central General Hospital dr. Sardjito, Dr. Yap Eye Hospital, and Air Force Central Hospital Dr. S Hardjolukito in Yogyakarta. In this study, the data of patients diagnosed with AMD would be extracted and compiled. The mean and percentage of each age category and genders are calculated and analyzed. Result: In this study, the average age of AMD patients is higher in male patients (67,94 years old) than the female patients (64,15 years old). Most patients diagnosed with AMD were from were from the 70 years and above age group with 49 patients (41,9%). It is followed closely by patients from the 60-69 years old age group with 38 patients (32,5%) and then the 50-59 years old age group with 20 patients (17,0%). The minority age groups were the pre-elderly age group of 49 years and below with 10 patients (8,6%). The average age of AMD patients calculated from this study is 65,84 years old. Conclusion: There is evidence that AMD is found in people of older age. Other than that, this study shows that the average age of male AMD patients in the three hospitals in Yogyakarta was 67,94 years old whilst the average age of female AMD patients was found to be 64,15 years old. It is also concluded that the number of female patients diagnosed with AMD was higher than male patients.
