An Analysis of Temporal Deixis in the Seven Novels of Harry Potter Series by J.K. Rowling: Harry Potter and Voldemort's Timeline

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah identifikasi temporal deixis dan menjelaskan arti dari temporal deixis yg ditemukan di dalam novel. Ini juga untuk mencari tahu pentingnya temporal deixis dalam hubungan Harry Potter dan Voldemort, dari masa lalu Voldemort sampai Voldemort dikalahkan Harry Potter. Karya ini hanya akan menganalisis temporal deixis yang menunjukan hubungan Harry Potter dan Voldemort dari buku pertama sampai ketujuh, dan juga hanya pada kata keterangan waktu. Ini adalah penelitian kualitatif deskripsi yang dimana peneliti mendeskripsikan data dalam bentuk kata-kata dan menggunakan kalimat-kalimat yang ditemukan di dalam novel untuk dianalisis. Metode yang digunakan peneliti adalah pertama membaca semua sumber data. Ketika membaca, peneliti memilih temporal deixis yang berhubungan dengan Harry Potter dan Voldemort kemudian menandainya dengan kode yg spesifik. Single Deictic Words diberi kode SD, modifiers/preposition + measure words diberi kode MM dan kode untuk sumber adalah novel+bab+halaman (1.4.157). Setelah data didapatkan, peniliti menganalisisnya dan menjelaskan arti data utama dengan menggunakan data pendukung.Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa ada 102 temporal deixis; 20 kata tunggal dan 82 kata yang terdiri dari pengubah atau preposisi + kata pengukuran dari tujuh novel Harry Potter. Peneliti juga menemukan temporal deixis dapat membantu menunjukan tanggal-tanggal dan melihat kronologi kehidupan Harry Potter dan Voldemort, khususnya sebelum Voldemort bertemu Harry Potter sampai Voldemort dibunuh oleh Harry Potter.

This research is aimed at identifying the temporal deixis and explaining the meaning of temporal deixis which are found in the novels. It is also investigate Harry and Voldemort's timeline, from Voldemort's past until Voldemort gets defeated by Harry Potter. This paper analyzes temporal deixis that show connection between Harry Potter and Voldemort from book one to seven and only the time adverbials. It is a descriptive qualitative research which the researcher describes data in the form of words and uses the texts that are found in the novel to be analyzed. The method that the researcher uses are first read all the data sources. While reading it, the researcher selects the temporal deixis that are related to Harry Potter and Voldemort and then marks them with spesific code. Single Deictic Words code are coded as SD, modifiers/preposition + measure words code is MM, and for the source code is novel+chapter+page (1.4.157). After the data is collected, the researcher analyzes them and then explains the meaning of main data with supporting data. The result of the research shows that there are 102 temporal deixis; 20 single deictic words and 82 modifiers or prepositions + measure words from seven Harry Potter novels. The researcher also found that deixis are helping to point out dates and to see the chronology of Voldemort and Harry Potter's lives, in particular before Voldemort met Hharry Potter until Voldemort is killed by Harry Potter.
