Grammatical Errors produced by Non-Native Contestants of English on Arirang TV Show Bring It On

Penelitian ini membahas kesalahan gramatika yang diucapkan oleh tiga kontestan penutur asing bahasa Inggris dari berbagai negara di Asia yaitu Indonesia, Azerbaijan dan Cina. Mereka memaparkan presentasi sesuai topik diskusi yang berkaitan dengan negara mereka masing-masing dalam acara TV Korea, Arirang, berjudul Bring It On menggunakan bahasa Inggris. Berdasarkan pada analisis data, ditemukan sebanyak 202 kesalahan terdiri dari 152 kesalahan sintaksis dan 50 kesalahan morfologi. Dari 202 kesalahan, kesalahan terbanyak terdapat pada noun phrase dengan total 95 kesalahan (47.03%) dan determiner adalah sub-tipe kesalahan paling banyak ditemui dengan 34 kesalahan dari sub-tipe kesalahan dalam noun phrase. Selain itu dalam kategori morfologi, kesalahan pada penggunaan simple past tense menempati urutan pertama dengan 15 kesalahan (7.43%). Tipe kesalahan lainnya yang juga sering ditemukan adalah kesalahan-kesalahan dalam verb phrase, third person singular verb, past participle, possessive case, some transformations dan coordinating conjunction. Hasil tersebut menunjukkan bahwa para kontestan masih memiliki masalah pada kemampuan bahasa Inggris mereka, terutama pada ketepatan tata bahasa Inggris.

This study investigates grammatical errors produced by three contestants of non-native English speakers from various countries in Asia, namely Indonesia, Azerbaijan and China. They presented the presentation according to the topic of discussion related to their respective countries in Korean TV broadcasting, Arirang TV program, entitled Bring It On using English. Based on data analysis, 202 errors were found, consisting of 152 syntactic errors and 50 morphological errors. Of the 202 errors, the most frequent error type was errors in the use of noun phrase with a total of 95 errors (47.03%) and determiner with 34 errors was claimed as the most common sub-type of error among other error sub-types in the noun phrase. In morphological errors, the incorrect use of simple past tense is the most common type of error with 15 errors (7.43%). Other types of error found quite frequent were errors in verb phrase, third person singular verb, past participle, possessive case, some transformations and coordinating conjunction. These results indicate that the contestants still have some problems with their English especially their grammatical accuracy.
