GAMBARAN CITRA PROFESI PERAWAT MENURUT PERSEPSI MAHASISWA S.1 ILMU KEPERAWATAN TAHUN PERTAMA DI YOGYAKARTA

Latar Belakang: Persepsi individu terhadap profesi perawat merupakan salah satu yang menjadi acuan terbentuknya citra perawat. Hal yang penting dijadikan pertimbangan adalah persepsi mahasiswa keperawatan itu sendiri, terutama mahasiswa tahun pertama sebagai awal dari pendidikan. Persepsi yang negatif pada mahasiswa keperawatan tahun pertama akan berakibat pada turunnya motivasi untuk melanjutkan pendidikan ke jenjang berikutnya, kemudian akan memengaruhi jumlah lulusan keperawatan dan jumlah perawat setelahnya. Informasi terkait persepsi mahasiswa keperawatan tahun pertama masih sangat terbatas. Tujuan Penelitian: Untuk mengetahui gambaran citra profesi perawat menurut mahasiswa S.1 ilmu keperawatan tahun pertama di Yogyakarta. Metode Penelitian: Penelitian deskriptif kuantitatif dengan pendekatan crosssectional, dilaksanakan di lima program studi ilmu keperawatan, dua universitas dan tiga sekolah tinggi kesehatan (STIKES) yang telah terpilih dengan random sampling pada bulan Mei-Agustus 2018. Kuesioner digunakan untuk menilai 330 responden terkait lingkungan kerja dan work values; pendidikan dan pilihan karir; nilai tradhisional, budaya, dan gender; caring; identitas dan kinerja perawat. Analisis yang digunakan adalah analisis data univariat yang menggambarkan frekuensi dan persentase respon. Hasil: Hasil penelitian menunjukkan dari 330 responden, sebanyak 50,91% memiliki persepsi yang positif dan 49,09% lainnya memiliki persepsi yang negatif terhadap citra profesi perawat. Kesimpulan: Citra profesi perawat menurut persepsi mahasiswa S.1 ilmu keperawatan tahun pertama sebagian besar positif. Meskipun demikian, karena persentase persepsi negatif mahasiswa masih tinggi, maka perlu dilakukan peningkatan kualitas kinerja perawat dan edukasi sehingga dapat meningkatkan atau memperbaiki persepsi mahasiswa terhadap profesi perawat.

Background: Nurses' mage could be formed by individual perception. Most importantly is nursing student's perception, especially of those who are still in the early stage of education, the first year students. A negative perception on nursing profession may lower studen's motivation to continue their education. This phenomenon might affected the number of nursing graduates and future nurses. However, information about the perception of first year nursing students is not fully understood. Objectives: To identify the image of nursing profession as perceived by first year undergraduate nursing students in Yogyakarta. Method: A quantitative descriptive study with cross-sectional approach was implemented in five undergraduate nursing programs, two universities and three health school, selected through random sampling during May-August 2018. A questionnaire was used to assess 330 respondents regarding work environment and work values; education and career choices; traditional, cultural and gender values; caring; nurse identity and performance. An univariate data analysis were performed to describe the frequency and percentage of responses. Result: The result of this study shows that among 330 respondents, 50.91% of respondents had positive perception and 49.09% had negative perceptions of the nursing profession. Conculsion: The image of nursing profession as perceived by first year undergraduate nursing students is mostly positive. However, since there is still a high percentage of students who have negative perception, a quality improvement of nurses's performance and education are needed in order to improve nursing student's perception on nursing profession.
