PERBANDINGAN KONSEP NEGARA PLATO DAN LOIS LOWRY (SEBUAH TINJAUAN ETIKA POLITIK FRANZ MAGNIS-SUSENO)

Penelitian ini berjudul Perbandingan Konsep Negara Plato dan Lois Lowry (Sebuah Tinjauan Etika Politik). Perbandingan kedua konsep negara tersebut dilakukan karena keduanya sama-sama utopia. Kedua karya tersebut menjadi objek material peneliti yang kemudian dianalisis melalui bahasan Etika-Politik. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian pustaka. Sumber data penelitian terbagi menjadi dua kelompok, yaitu pustaka primer dan pustaka sekunder. Pustaka primer merupakan buku-buku yang berkaitan dengan objek formal dan objek material, seperti buku Republik (Plato), Novel The Giver (Lowry), Etika Politik: Prinsip-Prinsip Moral Dasar Kenegaraan Modern (Magnis-Suseno). Pustaka sekunder merupakan bahan data yang mendukung pustaka primer seperti buku, jurnal, artikel ilmiah dan sumber internet. Metode yang digunakan adalah deskripsi, interpretasi, komparasi, dan refleksi filosofis. Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah: (1) Prinsip-prinsip etika politik Franz Magnis-Suseno, yaitu: hak asasi manusia, keadilan sosial, dan legitimasi etis. (2) Konsep negara Plato dan Lois Lowry adalah utopia, namun plato berdasarkan hierarki, sedangkan Lowry berdasarkan kesamaan. (3) Perbandingan konsep negara Plato dan Lois Lowry dalam tinjauan etika politik menghasilkan beberapa perbedaan, dalam Republik, tidak diperkenankan untuk memiliki istri, anak, dan harta pribadi, sedangkan dalam The Giver diperkenankankan, namun semuanya sudah ditentukan. Konsep Plato berdasar hierarki dipimpin oleh Filsuf, sedangkan lowry berdasar kesamaan dipimpin oleh para ketua. Persamaan kedua konsep ini adalah sama-sama sebuah konsep utopia.

Theses entitled A Comparison of Plato's and Lowry's Conceptions of State (A Review of Political Ethics), tried to compare two ideal state concept between Plato and Lowry in their works which both are similarly utopian. These became the object of research material that is then analyzed through Ethics-Politics discourse. The main steps of the research are divided into two categories, namely the primary literature, and secondary literature. Primary literature books relating to the formal object and material objects, those are the book of the Republic (Plato), Novel The Giver (Lowry), and Political Ethics: Basic Moral Principles of Modern State (Magnis-Suseno). While the secondary literature is a material data supporting primary literature such as books, journals, scientific articles, and internet sources. Methodical elements employing in the research are description, interpretation, comparison, and philosophical reflection. The results of the research are as follow: (1) The principles of political ethics Franz Magnis Suseno, namely, human rights, social justice, and ethical legitimacy. (2) The Plato's and Lowry's conceptions of state are utopian, but Plato is based on "hierarchy", while Lowry is on "equality". (3) The result comparison of Plato's and Lowry's conceptions of state in political ethics as follows: in the Republic, is not allowed to have wives, children, and properties, while in The Giver is allowed, but everything is determined. Plato's state is based on a hierarchy led by the philosopher, while Lowry's is on equality led by the elder.
