Pemutus tenaga (PMT) adalah alat yang mampu membuka dan menutup jaringan distribusi pada saat normal maupan pada saat terjadi gangguan. Gangguan yang sering dialami sistem distribusi tegangan menengah adalah gangguan hubung singkat, gangguan hubung singkat ada yang bersifat sementara dan ada yang bersifat permanen. Pada saat terjadi gangguan permanen ketika PMT dihubungkan maka PMT terbuka kembali, apabila hal ini terus dibiarkan maka PMT akan cepat rusak. Untuk mengatasi hal tersebut dipasanglah relay lockout pada sistem proteksi. Relay lockout berfungsi untuk menutup aliran arus terhadap coil yang berfungsi untuk menghubungkan PMT sehingga PMT tidak dapat dihubungkan. Relay lockout bekerja ketika terjadi gangguan hubung singkat pada sistem distribusi jaringan menengah dengan menerima sinyal masukan dari relay OCR maupun GFR untuk mengamankan PMT untuk dihubungkan ketika gangguan hubung singkat permanen terjadi.

Circuit breaker is an automatically operated electrical switch designed to protect a distribution network from damage caused by the interruption. The interruption in distribution network is excess current from an overload or short circuit. There are two types of short circuit, temporary and permanent. When the permanent interruption is occurred and the operator try to close, a circuit breaker will be opened again. If this condition continues to be left, a circuit breaker is going to be out of order quickly. To overcome this situation, lockout relay will be installed at protection system. Relay lockout works to block the flow of current to coil that make a circuit breaker to be closed. Lockout relay works when a short circuit interruption is occurred at medium voltage distribution network with receive the input signal from OCR and GFR relays. It is used to secure a circuit breaker when the permanent short circuit is occurred.
