Pemborosan penggunaan listrik baik pada rumah maupun perumahan terjadi akibat kelalaian pengguna yang tidak segera mematikan peralatan listrik setelah digunakan. Kelalaian tidak hanya menyebabkan pemborosan, tapi juga memperpendek usia pakai peralatan listrik. Otomatisasi merupakan salah satu realisasi dari perkembangan teknologi. Programable Logic Controller (PLC) merupakan salah satu kontroler yang umum digunakan dalam sistem otomatisasi industri. OpenHAB merupakan perangkat lunak yang dikembangkan untuk diintegrasikan dengan bermacam sistem dan teknologi Home Automation. Sistem rumah pintar atau Smarthome merupakan salah satu otomatisasi yang sedang berkembang saat ini. Sistem smarthome dirancang dengan menggunakan PLC sebagai kontroler dengan OpenHAB sebagai interface pengguna dan protokol Modbus sebagai protokol komunikasi. Sistem smarthome yang dirancang disimulasikan dengan menggunakan Vijeo Citect sebagai interface rumah dan Poll Modbus untuk pengujian komunikasi antara OpenHAB dan Vijeo Citect kepada PLC. Simulasi sistem smarthome yang dibuat dapat digunakan untuk pengujian sistem sebelum diterapkan pada rumah sebenarnya.

User who doesn�t immediately turn off electrical appliances after using it, leads to wasteful uses of electricity. It�s not only leads to waste, but also shortens the life of electrical appliances. Automation is one of the technological developments. Programable Logic Controller (PLC) is one of the most commonly used controllers in industrial automation systems. OpenHAB is software developed to integrate with various Home Automation systems and technologies. Smarthome home system is one of the growing automations system today. The smarthome system is designed by using PLC as a controller with OpenHAB as the user interface and the Modbus protocol as a communication protocol. The designed smarthome system is simulated using Vijeo Citect as the home interface and Poll Modbus to check the communication between OpenHAB and Vijeo Citect to PLC. The smarthome simulation system that already made, can be used to check the system before it is applied to the actual house.
