Kuda (Equus caballus atau Equus ferus caballus) adalah salah satu spesies modern mamalia dari genus Equus. Kaki depan kuda menopang 55%-60% dari total berat tubuh pada saat istirahat dan meredam getaran saat kuda berlari cepat, sedangkan kaki belakang berfungsi sebagai pendorong saat kuda berjalan dan berlari. Tingkat pertumbuhan kuku kuda di alam liar seimbang dengan tingkat keausannya dalam aktivitas sehari-hari, namun demikian, akibat domestikasi dan penggunaan kuda di lingkungan yang berbeda serta pemanfaatan kuda secara berlebihan dapat menyebabkan kuku mengalami keausan. Kebanyakan pemilik dan perawat kuda kurang memperhatikan kondisi kuku kuda, sehingga kuku kuda sangat rentan terhadap kerusakan dan penyakit. Manajemen perawatan kuku kuda yang perlu diperhatikan adalah pembersihan kuku, inspeksi harian, pemotongan kuku, pergantian tapal dan pengendalian penyakit kuku. Materi tugas akhir ini menggunakan seluruh kuda yang terdapat di Pikatan Stable dengan jumlah populasi kuda 9 ekor dan metode yang digunakan adalah dengan cara observasi serta wawancara langsung. Perawatan kuku pada kuda dilakukan secara rutin sebanyak satu kali dalam sehari, yaitu berupa pembersihan kuku serta pengecekan kuku harian. Pembersihan dilakukan saat akan dikandangkan, keluar kandang maupun sebelum dan sesudah setiap latihan. Inspeksi kuku harus dilakukan setiap hari, meliputi pemeriksaan kondisi kuku seperti retak, membelah, dan kelembapan yang tidak memadai, keausan yang tidak merata, pertumbuhan abnormal, kemungkinan adanya memar dan pengecekan tapal yang longgar. Prosedur pemotongan kuku dan pemasangan tapal dilakukan secara rutin setiap satu kali dalam sebulan sehingga kesehatan kuku dan konformasi bentuk kaki kuda tetap terjaga dengan baik.

Horses (Equus caballus or Equus ferus caballus) are one of the modern species of mammals of the genus Equus. The horse's forelegs sustain 55% -60% of the total body weight at rest and dampen vibrations as the horse runs fast, while the hind legs serve as a driving force as horses walk and run. The growth rate of horse's hooves in the wild equals the level of wear and tear in daily activities, however, due to the domestication and use of horses in different environments and the excessive use of horses can cause the hooves to wear out. Most owners and horse nurses pay less attention to the condition of the horse's hooves, so the horse's hooves are very susceptible to damage and disease. Horse grooming management that needs to be considered is hooves cleaning, daily inspection, hooves cutting, horseshoe and hooves disease control. The material of this report using all the horses contained in Pikatan Stable with 9 horses population and the method used is by observation and direct interviews. Hooves care on horses is done routinely as much as once a day, that is in the form of cleaning hooves as well as daily hooves checks. Cleaning is done when entering the cage, out of the cage or before and after each exercise. Hooves inspection should be done daily, including hooves condition checks such as cracking, splitting, and inadequate moisture, uneven wear, abnormal growth, the possibility of bruising and checking the poultice loose. The procedures of hooves cutting and the installation of a poultices is done routinely every month to once a month so that the hooves health and conformation of the horse�s leg shape is maintained properly.
