The Comparison Between Male and Female Post-Stroke Depression

Post-stroke depression (PSD) is a common neuropsychiatric manifestation and complication that occurs following a stroke. PSD has a major influence on the functional status of stroke patient. PSD impairs a patients recovery as patient will not cope with their rehabilitation program or optimize their remaining cognitive function. PSD is associated with a few risk factors. One of the most cited risk factor in literature is gender. Objective : To understand the distribution and the level of depression in post-stroke patient, in respect of gender and age. Methodology : This research is a descriptive cross sectional study on the comparison of degree of depression in post stroke patients between male and female patients in RSUP dr. Sardjito in Yogyakarta. The data used in this study will be primary data, which is obtained using a questionnaire. The data obtained then will be interpreted to obtain results and conclusions. Result : Statistics test using Chi Square Test and also Logistic Regression has proven gender has a significance towards depression with values of (p=0.011) and (p=0.046) respectively.
