The Bluest Eye Karya Toni Morrison:Kajian Postmemory

Amerika merupakan sebuah benua yang memiliki sejarah kelam terkait dengan rasisme. Rasisme yang ada di Amerika tidak muncul di dalam masyarakat dengan begitu saja, rasisme diawali pada masa perbudakan marak di Amerika. Perbudakan kemudian dihapuskan oleh Abraham Lincoln, tetpai penghapusan perbudakan itu tidak menghentikan rasisme di Amerika. Badai yang menyapu Lorain dan juga Great Depression yang melanda Amerika kembali membangkitkan rasisme. Seakan membuka luka lama, mereka yang tidak mengalami kejadian tersebut turut merasakan kengeriannya. The Bluest Eye, sebuah novel yang ditulis oleh Toni Morrison menuai kontroversi karena dianggap terlalu vulgar. Namun, kemudian The Bluest Eye menjadi novel yang diperbinangkan khalayak karena dianggap menyampaikan penderitaan orang-orang kulit hitam di masa terdahulu hingga saat ini. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengungkapkan transmisi memori yang ada dalam novel The Bluest Eye dan Toni Morrison sendiri.penelitian ini juga memiliki tujuan untuk menguak rekonstruksi memori dalam novel The Bluest Eye dan juga yang ada pada Toni Morrison. Konteks historis dari Toni Morrison juga akan dibicarakan di dalam penelitian ini. Ketiga konsep tersebut kemudian akan diamati lebih dalam sehingga dapat ditemukan relasi dari ketiganya. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode deskriptif, historis, kausal, dan perbandingan. Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah ditemukannya perubahan konsep tentang badai. Proses transmisi memori, rekonstruksi memori, konteks historis penulis, dan relasi ketiganya menggiring ke sebuah temuan bahwa hal yang menghancurkan dapat disebut sebagai badai. Selain itu terdapat temuan lain mengenai peristiwa traumatik yang dialami para survivor dan diwariskan kepada generasi lanjutan, bahwa sesungguhnya yang menjadi traumatik bukanlah ingatan atau peristiwa yang terjadi tetapi dari dampak yang ditimbulkan oleh peristiwa traumatik tersebut.

America is a continent which has a dark history of racism. Racism does not appear in America by itself, racism appears in America since the slavery come and become something massive in America. Then, slavery has been removed by Abraham Lincoln but unfortunately, that policy cannot removed racism in America. Tornado that hit Lorain in 1924 and also great depression made racism coming back and still exist in America. As if opening an old wound, those who do not experience the event also can feel the dread. The Bluest Eye, a novel written by Toni Morrison reap the controversy because the content was too vulgar. However, people start talking about The Bluest Eye because they think that it can deliver black people feeling since the beginning until nowadays. These research has purpose to reveal the memory transmission inside The Bluest Eye and also Toni Morrison. Next, this research also discover the memory reconstruction inside The Bluest Eye and also on Tony Morrison. Historical context of Toni Morrison also discussed in this thesis. Those three concepts will be observed so can find the relation between those three. Descriptive, historical, causal, and also comparative methods are used in this research. The result of the research is the researcher found a change in the concept of storm. Memory transmission, memori reconstruction, the historical context of the writer and also the relation of those three lead into a finding that anything that can destroy evrything can be called as a storm. Other than that, there is another finding about traumatic events which experienced by the survivor and inherited to the post-generation, actually the thing that called traumatic is not the memory about the events but the impact of the traumatic event.
