YOUNG-VOTERS’ JUDGEMENT TOWARDS PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATES OF INDONESIA’S 2014 GENERAL ELECTION: AN EXP

2015 | Skripsi |The aim of this study was to explore young-voters’ judgment towards the presidential candidate’s of Indonesia’s 2014 Presidential Election: Prabowo Subianto and Joko Widodo. This research used a mixed method approach, being dominantly content analysis, where the exploration of data is completed with means test and interview. A total of 98 respondents aged 17-22 participated in this where they were asked to fill in open-ended questionnaires. The open-ended questions were categorized, open coded, axial coded, then analyzed. The result shows that Psychological aspects of presidential candidates (personality and attitude) are the most appealing aspects to voters, where the factor accounts for 66% in regards to Prabowo and 70.6% to Jokowi. Perceived similarity contributes to the rating of suitability towards Jokowi (favorably), but not taken into account in the case of Prabowo. Educational status and strength of ethnicity does not contribute to how a voter rates a candidate’s suitability. However, religiousity is taken account for the rating towards Prabowo although it was not proven for Jokowi. In regards to voting intention, 31% of the respondents say that they will vote for Prabowo Subianto, 25% for Joko Widodo, while 38% have not decided their vote.
