PENGERTIAN DAN DINAMIKA PERSAHABATAN PADA REMAJA SEKOLAH MENENGAH ATAS: SEBUAH PENDEKATAN INDIGENOUS

This study explores the dynamics of friendship in sample Javanese adolescents using indigenous psychology approach. This study involves 120 respondents, consists of 38 Male and 82 Female. The data were obtained using an open-ended questionnaire, which it asks about many components of friendship between respondents and their best friends. The data was then categorized using content analysis to identify the keywords within the responses. The keywords were cross-tabulated using sex as the filter. The result showed that there are two major theme that underlies friendship between respondents and their best friends namely Togetherness and Comonness. The result also shows an interdependence between components of friendship. Togetherness forms understanding and a quality called being there during joy and despair between the respondents and their best friend. Understanding that formed between them, and mediates by the feeling of security and trust, formed an atmosphere where the two of them are able to show their true self, free of their masks and “be myself”. In the other hand, commonness facilitates a good communication between them and builds pleasant sense when being together. Furthermore, good communication along with trust slowly develop into a process of self-disclosure, and self-disclosure facilitates understanding to grow bigger between respondents and their best friends. All of those components works in harmony, together they form a relation which an individual will find a person who always being there in time of joy and de.spair, understands him/her well and willing to accept them as who they are; a best friend.
