2012 | Skripsi |The aim of this qualitative study is to understand the psychological dynamic of how belief influence the attitude toward the risks of disaster, for Javanese people who profess the Javanese belief system and the religion of Catholic. The subject of this study are four Abdi Dalem (Sultan’s Proctor) as r epr e s entat i ve s for Javanese people who profess the Javanese belief system and three Prodiakon (Deacon) as r epr e s entat i ve s for Javanese people who profess the religion of Catholic. The data was collected through in-depth interview, and field notes. The results of this study indicates that there are two types of influence of belief on the Abdi Dalem, and one type of influence on the Prodiakon. The first influence on the Abdi Dalem is that disaster is the act of the God, and that disaster is predictable. Therefore, humans should try to minimize the risk of disaster, by conducting the Disaster Preparedness Program. The second influence on the Abdi Dalem is that disaster is the wicked deed of humans, and that disaster is impossible to predict. Therefore, humans should draw themselves toward the God, so they can gain the God’s salvation. They also thought that Disaster Preparedness Program is useless and unapplicable, because no one can predict, let alone prevent the occurence, and the risks of disaster. The influence on the Prodiakon is that disaster is the impact of human’s deeds, and carelessness, and that disaster is predictable. Therefore, humans should introspect themselves, find their mistakes so they shall not commit the same mistakes in the future, and conducting the Disaster Preparedness Program, as the proof of their strong faith in God.
