IDENTITAS SOSIAL MASYARAKAT KUANTAN SINGINGI

Kuantan society in Riau Province lives within mixed culture of two different cultures, Melayu and Minang. People who live in Kuantan Singingi District usually called Melayu people, but they are called Minang too. The research is aimed to understand the social identity of Kuantan Singingi people faces this two mixed culture, whether they affiliated as Melayu, Minang, or even created new identity. Deep interview method, observation, and documenting cultural symbols were used to collect data. Subjects of the research are three people (20 – 30 years old) from indigenous Kuantan Singingi society. Analyzing data were using phenomenology perspective which has four processes, epoche, reduction, imaginative variation, and synthesis of meaning. As a result, this research discovered that there are four main factors which have been affected social identity of Kuantan Singingi society.
