The main objective of this study was to investigate differential predictive validity by sex of the written tests used in the University of Gadjah Mada undergraduate admission procedure (Utul UM UGM). Item and test score data of 2.132 female and 2.297 male students admitted to the university in 2006 were analyzed by means of IRT 3- parameter DIF identifications, confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) procedures for modeldata fit, linear correlation and regression analyses, as well as scatter-plot comparisons. By involving IPA (Science), IPS (Social), IPD (Basics), Tes Potensi (General Ability), and NEM (High School National Standard Test) scores as predictors for predicting IPK-2 (first year GPA), the study revealed that: a. Fifty three percents of 79 Utul UM UGM items being flagged as DIF were biased against female. b. All factor structure models of IPA, IPS, IPD, and Tes Potensi UM UGM were supported by the data. The constructs of the tests were valid and indications of differential construct validity were not evident except for the IPA. c. Satisfying predictive validity coefficients of different test of Utul UM UGM were attained at Faculties of Pharmacy, Medicine, Forestry, Engineering, Economics & Business, Biology, and Cultural Sciences. At the other five faculties, the tests were either invalid or differentially valid. d. All valid UM UGM tests were biased predictors against female. e. Unexpectedly only four combinations of predictor could be assembled as effective multiple predictors for first-year GPA. None of them involved more than two tests. f. NEM scores were contributive to improve predicting power of Utul UM UGM tests at Faculties of Medicine, Engineering, Forestry, and Cultural Sciences. g. At each of the twelve faculties involved in the study, none of men’s IPK-2 was greater than of women’s. As a whole, female significantly outperformed male students. ________________________________________ Keywords: Differential predictive validity, UM UGM, GPA
