The earthquake that took place in DIY (Daerah Istimewa Jogjakarta) and Central Java on 27 May 2006 gave such tremendous impact to individual and social’s physical and psychological factor, as well as material damage. Those impacts are able to alter the society both individually and socially. The alterations can be something said to be positive, yet on the other hand, it can be said as negative, which are affecting any society’s life sides. Such any alterations are potentially threatening harmonious living that has been upheld by the Javanese. Based on the above thought, this research then aims to illustrate the whole psychological overview about the individual’s effort in countenancing the alterations triggered by an earthquake, using the local wisdom which then leads them to harmonious society’s life. This study is truly a qualitative research with the ethnography-grounded theory method approach, which aims to provide overviews to a whole-and-comprehensive investigated phenomenon; without abandoning the importance of cultural and custom in the middle of such society. One of this research’s essential findings shows that the Javanese still adhering the Javanese local wisdom in countenancing any kinds of post-earthquake alterations. The society is somewhat takes any kinds of conflict, such as the unfair disaster-aid distributions and the local residence officer’s corruption acts, passively. Their passive reaction shows that – for Javanese – maintaining the social harmonious life is the most essential life purpose; comparing to claiming their violated rights.
