This phenomenology qualitative research was conducted in order to know the meaning of work on Riau Malay women workers. This research attempted to explain the meaning of work on Riau Malay women point of view as a housewife. With her status as a housewife, Riau malay woman with dual-earner family has a double role as mothers and as workers, so by knowing the meaning of work in Riau malay woman workers will help to understand what makes Riau malay women keep doing the double role although traditional gender ideology on women wither Riau environment more influence on the implementation of doing family roles. This research use in-dept interview for collecting data. 8 respondents were involved. Respondents were pool by using “snow-ball sampling” technique. In phenomenological reduction, imaginative variation, and synthetics of meaning. The process of analyzing and interpreting data included bracketing, horizonaling, meaning units to gain textural description, imaginative variation was used to gain structural description, and combine textural description with structural description turned into the meaning which was universal and representative to respondents in a whole. The validity of research result used intersubjective validity. The results showed that respondents considered their respective roles in both the role and the role of households in the work has a meaning or significance of its different and not the value which gives importance in their lives. Conditions of work and family which went on line of his own without any influence of traditional gender ideology in it, make some form of meaning to the work done by Riau malay woman, namely as a necessity.
