This research examined psychological dynamics of parenting process in societal setting, which has specific cultural characteristics. This research used ethnographic method with three data collection methods, namely, observation, interview, and documentation; and symbol analysis. Primary participants of research were derived from two families consisting of three generations; whereas, secondary participants of research were societal figures in Panglipuran village and people outside Penglipuran village who could give information associated with objectives of research. Results of research indicated that parenting of society in Penglipuran village could be classified into two big parts, namely, parenting of family and parenting culture of society. Parenting of family had themes on figures of father, mother, figures other than parents, educational method, value implantation and formal education. Parenting culture of society consisted of themes on relevance to life cycle ceremonies in parenting process, role of mores in forming character and child behavior, and role of society as parent associate in caring for and educating children. This research also revealed that there were particular similarities to and differences from cares of first, second, and third generations, which were affected by a number of factors, such as, presence of positive benefits of previous parenting, and presence of changes in environment and parents’ awareness. From this research, it could be concluded that there is philosophy of Tri Hita Karana as indigenous concept for parenting basis applied to this village society, and that society of Penglipuran village had collectivism parenting objectives, where children were cared and educated to form characteristics supporting relation to other people. Keywords: parenting, intergeneration, indigenous psychology, Bali Aga (Indigenous Balinese).
