KOMPETENSI BIMBINGAN KONSELING KARIR DITINJAU DARI STATUS DAN MOTIVASI MAHASISWA MENJADI KONSELOR

The purposes of this study is to investigate: (1) the difference in career guidance competencies between students who had been working and those who had not, (2) the difference of career guidance competencies between students with high motivation for being a counselor and those with low motivation, (3) the interaction between student’s working status (whether they had work or not ) and student’s motivation as counselor. This research population involved all the students at the Guidance Counseling Study Program, FKIP UPY in the academic year 2007/2008. There were 110 students, consisted 50 students who did not work and 60 students who had been working. Simple random sampling techniques with Morgan’s table and error level 5% (based on Stephen Isaac, 1983) was used to recruit the sample. From the population, 42 students who didn’t work, and 43 students who worked were taken as samples. The guidance competencies data were collected using theory and performance tests. The data of the working status students were collected from files in the Department, and the motivation data were collected using the motivation scale. Alpha coefficient was used to determine the scale reliability.. The results showed that: (1) there were difference in career guidance competencies between students who had been working and those who had not work (p =0.030); students who were working had higher career guidance competencies than students who didn’t work, (2) there were difference in career guidance competencies between high motivation students and low motivation students (p
