EFEKTIVITAS PELATIHAN BERPIKIR POSITIF UNTUK MENURUNKAN TINGKAT STRES PADA MAHASISWA

2009 | Tesis |This study was aimed to test the effectiveness of positive thinking training to reduce level of stress among university students. The hypothesis proposed for this study was ‘Positive thinking training is effective to reduce level of stress among university students.’ The experimental group that received training in positive thinking experienced a decrease in the level of stress compared to that of control group (waiting list) that did not received positive thinking training. The subjects of this study were 48 students of Faculty of Teacher Training and Education at PGRI University, Yogyakarta, who were registered as active students, suffered high to very high level of stress, and voluntarily participated in the training. They were assigned into two groups, i.e., group that received training (experimental group), consisting of 24 students, and group that did not receive training (control group), consisting of 24 students. Scale of Students’ Stress Level (SSSL) was used during the selection of subjects as a screening to find out whether or not they had stress disorder. The experimental design for this study was a pretest-posttest control group design. The treatment was positive thinking training on the experimental group. The T-test, that analyzed difference in gained score between the experimental group and the control group, indicated that the positive thinking training was effective in reducing level of stress among the students. It was shown by the result of t count of 8,232 on the gained score (to increase positive thinking) data at p=0.001 and of -8,148 on the gained score (reducing level of stress among the students) data at p=0.001. Thus, the positive thinking training had an effective contribution of 22,1% to increase positive thinking of Students. Thus, the positive thinking training had an effective contribution of 20,16% to reduce level of stress among the students. Key words: Stress Students, Positive thinking training
