RESILIENSI PADA PARAPLEGIA (SPINAL CORD INJURY)

2008 | Tesis |This research aimed to know how resiliency in Paraplegia when the Paraplegic faced life changes that never been expected in their interaction with the real life in their community. This research is qualitative research using case study approach. The research subjects were selected by using snowball sampling with five research subjects and three significant persons. The data collection techniques were in-depth interview and field note. To get the validity of this research, the researcher applied triangulation. The Results of the research shows that (1) resiliency on Paraplegic is different of each other. The etiology process of Paraplegia, inner Paraplegic factors, help and support for Paraplegic affect the resiliency of Paraplegic. There is one reason affecting more in resiliency on Paraplegic. That is responsibility toward the other. This is the main stimulus for Paraplegic to rise from stressful event. (2) There are some factors affecting Paraplegic resiliency. Those are external factors and internal factors. The external factors are social supports (from family member, the collegians, non government organization, and the other Paraplegics), medical and psychological care, and rehabilitation. The internal factors are optimism, self-acceptance, religion, self-concept and self-efficacy. Although the external factors affect the resilience, the internal factors more affected one in Paraplegic, but both of them must exist together. (3) The social supports can improve the resiliency but it can be an obstacle for Paraplegic to be independent person. (4) This research shows that gender difference is not the obstacle to have resiliency on Paraplegic. Key words: Resiliency, Paraplegia
