PENGAMBILAN KEPUTUSAN UNTUK MENUNDA PERNIKAHAN PADA PEREMPUAN DEWASA AWAL ETNIS TIONGHOA BERAGAMA

Today, increasingly many adult women that have not married yet, particularly ones living in urban area. In physical appearance, they are perfect. They have also permanent job or position and material wealth such as house, automobile, and saving. With the condition, actually it is not difficult for the adult women to get partner. However, in their not-young age, many adult women have no live partner. The purpose of this research was to study (1) decision making of early adult catholic Chinese women in Bandung to postpone marriage and (2) internal and external factors that make background of early adult Catholic Chinese women in Bandung to decide to postpone marriage. Subject of this research was three early adult Catholic Chinese women determined using purposive approach by following certain criteria. Informant was three close friends of the subjects. Data was collected using focused group discussion, interview, and observation. Validity of data was examined though data credibility, reliability and objectivity. Data was analyzed qualitatively through steps of data organization, coding, analysis and drawing conclusion. Result of the research indicated that in relation to physical appearance, occupation and material possession, subjects seem perfect. However, in their not-young age the subjects had still no partner. There were internal and external factors that influence the decision. The internal factor was subject's desire to be autonomous. Subjects wanted autonomy, especially in fulfilling their needs in order not to depend on others. Subject autonomy can be seen from their current condition of having house, automobile and other material possession. Meanwhile, external factors included (1) desire to get partner from same ethnic due to same culture, (2) desire to get partner with same economic status, (3) desire to get partner with minimal education of S1 degree because it will useful in solving problem within family and better design for future family, (4) religion; the two subjects said that different-religion partner will induce problem, especially for children, (5) cultural or Chinese tradition within family, particularly in MM family, (6) bad experiences in previous relationship, and (7) bad examples provided by married family member.
