2007 | Tesis |This study was designed to investigate effectiveness of Feldenkrais method in reducing 11 PTSD related behaviors among women acquaintance rape survivors with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) symptom. Preliminary research was intended to find subjects with PTSD symptom. Five rape survivors were interviewed using Clinician Administered PTSD Scales (CAPS) that is design to assess associated features of PTSD as defined by DSM-IV. One of them did not meet eligibility criteria, one survivor did not participate in this study. Finally, the subjects were three rape survivors who chose to participate in this study. Experiment design was within subject design with ABAB single subject experiment model. Main research was conducted for 6 weeks from March 31st - May 6th 2007. Data collected from monitoring record was analyzed with visual inspection technique and non parametric statistic with Wilcoxon Signed Ranks test. Qualitative data gained from reflection process in the training, recording process from weekly meeting, and subject’s diary records was analyzed with phenomenological technique using a model as developed by Colaizzi Results showed that there was declining tendencies in PTSD related behavior among 3 subjects but those tendencies patterns varied between one target behaviors to others. The various declining patterns were also found between one subject to others. The qualitative analysis results showed Feldenkrais method has altered self awareness’ among subjects. Those new awareness’ affected the ways subjects coped with their problems therefore lead to decreasing in behavior targets in general. All subjects showed a strong resistant in lying on back position, but the most significance influencing movements among subject were different between one subject to others. It is worthy to note that the study was not conducted in a vacuum laboratory, so it was possible that the external factor would affect the process of the study, especially for subjects who experienced inappropriate responses from family, community and service providers known as secondary victimization.
