This study was aimed to examine the role of mastery goal orientation and performance goal orientation in predicting academic achievement. Study strategies (disorganization, elaboration strategy, and rehearsal strategy) mediated the relationship between goal orientation and academic achievement. Participants were 167 students of Islamic University of Indonesia and Gadjah Mada University (113 undergraduate and 54 graduate students). Based on the multiple hierarchical regression analysis, the results showed that mastery goal orientation could predict academic achievement without the mediation of disorganization and elaboration strategy. Performance goal orientation could predict academic achievement positively without the mediation of rehearsal strategy.
