Midwives today had a great challenge which demand them have had high professionalism and dedication in spite of to decrease mortality rate on mother and child. To support midwives work effectively, interpersonal communication skill and hardiness are needed so they can work properly and gave public health services optimally. The aim of this research was to know the relation between interpersonal communication skill and hardiness with midwives work effectively in Pontianak regency Health Department. This research consist of one dependent variable midwives work effectively, and two independent variables, interpersonal communication and hardiness. Data collection was done by using the scale method. Subject in this research were one hundred ninety eight midwives in Pontianak. Data were analyzed by using multivariate regression analysis. The results of this research showed that there was relation significant between interpersonal communication skill and hardiness to midwives work effectively with (F = 7.754, R2 = 0.074, and p = 0.001). Based stepwise, interpersonal communication was correlated positive significant to midwives work effectively with beta = 0.151, t = 2.093, and p = 0.038. Moreover, there was also hardiness was correlated positive significant to midwives work effectively with beta = 0.185, t = 2.561, and p = 0.011.
