INTENSI KEKERASAN SUAMI TERHADAP ISTRI DITINJAU DARI PENGALAMAN INDIVIDU DAN STRATEGI COPING

The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between husband’s intention to abuse his wife, problem-focused coping strategy, emotion-focused coping strategy, and experience about domestic violence. Sample consisted of 120 husbands who live in district of South Jayapura, Abepura and Sentani, province of Papua. Their age are 45 years or below, at least had married in one year and had not been divorce. Method of sampling in this study is purposive random sampling, and collected by four scale, husband’s intention to abuse his wife scale, problem-focused coping strategy scale, emotion-focused coping strategy scale, and experience about domestic violence scale. Data then analyse by multiple reggression technique with enter/enforced method. The result show that problem-focused coping strategy, emotion-focused coping strategy and experience about domestic violence predict husband’s intention to abuse his wife. Experience about domestic violence is the most important influence to husband’s intention to abuse his wife, followed by emotion-focused coping strategy and problem-focused coping strategy.
