2006 | Tesis |Health behaviour is part of a larger organization of the person, rather than an isolated aspect or a unique domain. Researcher assumes that self-regulation and value system influence young people’s engagement in health behaviour especially in critical period for adoption of behaviour relevant to health. This research investigates the association between health behaviour and materialism as value system and personal agency as an indicator of self-regulation. 205 students completed questionnaire measures of 7 health behaviours, materialism and level of personal agency. A series of principal factor analyses were performed to investigate the dimensionality of health behaviour questionnaire and materialism scale. They revealed that health behaviour could be classified into active health behaviour (as physical activity, fiber consumption and psychological well-being maintenance) and limitation of fatty and sweet food intake. They also revealed that there are two types of materialism, consumptive and financial aspiration materialism. Path analysis finding indicated that there was negative significant association between financial aspiration and personal agency. Active health behaviour related positively to personal agency, but did not relate to financial aspiration and consumptive materialism. There was negative association between consumptive materialism and limitation of fatty and sweet food intake. Both personal agency and financial aspiration did not associate with limitation of fatty and sweet intake. The findings suggest that materialism value and personal agency have impact on health behaviour. Key-Words: Consumptive-materialism, financial aspiration, health behaviors, personal agency
