EMPATI DAN KOMITMEN SEBAGAI FASILITATOR PERILAKU MEMBERI MAAF DALAM HUBUNGAN ROMANTIS

This research aims at explaining and understanding how an individual forgives, identifying motivational factors that support the forgiving behaviour in romantic relation, and giving a deeper emphasis on the role of empathy and commitment as motivational factor facilitating the forgiving behaviour. 142 respondents including 80 women, 62 men of 18-40 years of age (m = 28.5) are involved in the research. They were recruited from three cities : Purwokerto, Semarang and Yogyakarta. For a comprehensive data, this research used triangular method. Data were gathered using narration method, instrument scale, interview and group discussion. This research revealed some conflict happenings which are potential to trigger of hurt feeelings and factors that support the forgiving behaviour. The role of empathy as the facilitator of forgiving behaviour was also proved (F = 25.877 at p = 0.000). The role of commitment in this behaviour were not found in this research (F = 0.301 at p = 0.591).
