2005 | Tesis |

The purpose of this study was to explore the experience of survivors living with downsizing, especially about psychological dynamics, impacts, and strategies for coping the problems. In-depth interviews were employed in this phenomenological study. Audiotaped interviews were conducted with eight survivors and were chosen by theoretical sampling. The process of analyzing and interpreting data included: (1) understanding the significant statements, (2) meanings of statements, (3) themes of meanings, and (4) exhaustive description. Verification of study result used member checks and external audits. The central meaning statement that best described the experience of survivors living with downsizing was that duration of work, age, and gender did not influence survivors responses, but mostly because of the test result of downsizing that was unfair and subjective. The test result would influence psychological condition, performance, and loyalty of survivors, and also, appraisal of survivors to downsizing. Keywords: survivors, downsizing, phenomenology, impact
