Almost people in the world are to be married, therefore the dynamics of marital life affect them as well. In reality, not all marriages run as what previously expected. Many of them end up with incompatibility, the spouse is not able to adjust one another, and even worse they can not take him or her as his/her partner anylonger. Divorce is an indication that there is no satisfaction anymore between the couple. This research was done in the Javanese cultural context. This research aims to test the marital satisfaction model in the Javanese culture and to find the biggest factor/path influencing the marital satisfaction. Theoretically and it was hypothesized that marital satisfaction affected by the marital commitment, the willingness to sacrifice, dyadic adjustment, and exchange equity. The last three factors in turn will be accepted by the spouse’s behavioral perception and the spouse’s perception it self will affect the marital satisfaction. The subjects of the research were 120 couples. The subjects qualifications are : (1) Javanese couples, (2) their mother tongue is Javanese, (3) the couple live together, (4) they have at least one child, (5) they have been married at least a year long. From the qualifications of the subjects above, data from 118 couples were analyzed. The result of the path analysis, specifically the AMOS software, version 4,01, 1994-1999 by James L Arbuckle, the path analysis model was rejected. Based on the rejection of the model, the model was modified. The result of the modification revealed that the marital satisfaction is determined by willingness to sacrifice, dyadic adjustment and exchange equity, further more the willingness to sacrifice, dyadic adjustment and exchange equity are affected by the marital commitment. The sequence of the path of the husband’s marital satisfaction from the biggest influence are : (1) starting from wife’s commitment  wife’s dyadic adjustment,  husband’s marital satisfaction. (2) the wife’s marital commitment  wife’s willingness to sacrifice,  wife’s dyadic adjustment  husband’s marital satisfaction. In this respect, the wife’s willingness to sacrifice does not directly influence the husband’s marital satisfaction. (3) the wife’s commitment  wife’s willingness to sacrifice  the husband’s marital satisfaction and lastly (4) the wife’s marital commitment  wife’s exchange equality  dyadic adjustment  husband’s marital satisfaction. The wife’s exchange equality on the last line does not have direct influences. The wife’s marital satisfaction based on the degree of their influences are: (1) starts from the husband’s marital commitment  dyadic adjustment  the wife’s marital satisfaction. (2) The husband’s marital commitment  the husband’s willingness to sacrifice  wife’s marital satisfaction. In other words, the husband’s dyadic adjustment is the sole factor determining the wife’s marital satisfaction. July 28, 2004
