ASPEK KOGNITIF DALAM DESAIN SITUS BERITA HARIAN DI INTERNET
Nugroho, Eko,
2004 | Disertasi |There are billions of internet web sites competing to attract surfers. Resulting the site screen display design becomes one of the important things in internet. Yet, the aspect of site screen display design has not been paid attention enough by Internet experts, considering it is a cognitive aspect. The limitations of human attention represent one of the most formidable bottlenecks in human information processing. In cognitive psychology some theories about the human information processing were developed including some aspects in information processing cycles by the human. This study focus on limitation human attention in term of sight. According to Wickens, there are three limitations in sight. These are : (1) the limits of selective attention, (2) the limits of focused attention and (3) the limits of divided attention. To be read clearly, website screen display should consider three web design factors, these are : (1) information structure, (2) highlighting and (3) navigation. On the other side, the level of the user attention to a website may be measured based on two aspects, these are : (1) visiting frequency, and (2) visiting length of time to the site. This study focuses on websites serving today news. Having 315 respondents ranging from 17 to 55 years old who have some access experience in website surfing least for three months, this study employs particular analysis tools, these are : canonical correlation and regression. The first phase findings show that site design affects site visits, reconfirming Lazarus theory that cognition precede affection. The research findings also show that there is multicolinearity between information structure and highlighting. Therefore, these two factors may be united become : three-dimensional information structure resulting in the modification of web design factors which become : (1) threedimensional information structure, and (2) navigation. This modified concept is supported by Djunaedi’s concept stating that screen display design is affected by two factors, these are substantive and procesural aspects. In this study, substantive aspect is expressed as three-dimensional information structure, while procedural aspect is figured out as navigator aspect. In conclusion, by these study, Wicken’a theory (which consists of three factors) has been modified becoming only two factors, these are : (1) the limits of selective attention in the form of three dimensions, and (2) the limits of divided attention. The first factor relates to the taking of information, while the later relates to the way of saving information.
