Photo-Fenton method for tannery wastewater treatment through reduction in COD value had been studied. This research began by determining the initial COD value of tannery wastewater and identification the organic compounds in the wastewater which was taken from leather tanning home industries in Yogyakarta. The influence of UV exposure time and reaction pH against the COD value impairment of tannery wastewater had been studied. The second photo-Fenton process was examined to reduce COD value so that it could meet the Government quality standard by 110 mg/L. COD value of wastewater was determined by refluxtitrimetric method. The initial results indicated that the COD value of tannery wastewater was 6960 mg/L and containing organic and inorganic compounds which have functional groups such as OH, N-H, C-H, C-C alkanes, C=C alkenes of aromatics, and C-O that contributing in COD value. Photo-Fenton process could reduce the COD value from 6960 mg/L to 880 mg/L with the optimum conditions were at pH 3 and 9 h of UV light exposured. The COD value could meet the government quality standard by doing two steps of photo-Fenton process with the final COD value was 80 mg/L.
