2016 | Skripsi | FMIPAIn this research, fabrication of hydrophobic film on glass surface with silica rice husk ash modified hexadecyltrimethoxysilane (HDTMS) has been carried out. The aim of this research was to produce transparent hydrophobic glass with high durability on ambient air. The research was initiated by deposition technique to prepare SiO2–HDTMS film, namely one step and layer by layer (LbL) dip coating technique. Deposition technique resulted in the best film was used to prepare the next films to study chemical composition (HDTMS:SiO2 mole ratio) and additional coating of HDTMS to the hydrophobic film. Furthermore, the durability of SiO2-HDTMS films was tested in ambient environment and etanol solution. The resulted hydrophobic films were characterized to study their properties such as hydrophocity, transparancy, and surface roughness. Results showed that LbL technique gave sufficient hydrophobicity and transparancy. Increasing of HDTMS:SiO2 mole ratio increase film hydrophobicity. The best water contact angle of LbL technique was around 103,7±1,3º with optical transmission over the visible range up to 96% at mole ratio HDTMS:SiO2= 5:1. The AFM image showed that the surface of this hydrophobic has average roughness (40,2 nm) lower than the wavelength of visible light. The hydrophobicity of film shows stable retention in etanol solution, and decreased after a month on ambient environment.
