Humic acid was isolated from peat soil from Rawa Pening, Jawa Tengah by dissolving humic acid using NaOH 0.1 M solution, and then precipitated with HCl 0.1 M until pH ? 1. Isolated humic acid was purified with 0.1 M HCl/HF 0.3 M 1:1 (v/v). Humic acid before and after purification were characterized by FTIR spectrometer and determinated ash content. Applications for kinetics study adsorption humic acids were interacted with metal ions Cu(II) at various temperatures of 30, 40, and 50 °C and the time 0, 3, 6, 10, 15, 30, 60, 90, 120, 180, 240, 300, and 360 minutes. The thermodynamic parameters were determined by dipping humic acid in Cu(II) aqueous solution with various concentrations of 0, 5, 10, 15, 20, 30, 40, 50, 75, 100 mg/L at various temperatures under conditions of optimum pH. Adsorbent of humic acid after interaction with Cu(II) was characterizated by FTIR spectrometer. The results showed that the adsorption of Cu(II) by humic acids was optimum at pH 4. Based on the calculations, the maximum adsorption capacity (qm) and the adsorption enthalpy (?H°) were 35.77 mg/g and 25.79 kJ/mol respectively. The rate adsorption constant (k) at temperatures of 30, 40, and 50 °C were 4.67x10-3; 2.82x10-2, dan 6.51x10-1 g/mg.min with an activation energy of 200.40 kJ/mol.
