Synthesis of 1,1-dibutoxybutane from n-butanol using Cu/activated carbon (Cu/AC) as a catalyst has been studied. The synthesis was started by making catalyst continued by conversion of n-butanol into 1,1-dibutoxybutane. Preparation of the catalyst was started by making activated carbon from coconut shell carbonisation at temperature of 450-500 oC and activation process at temperature 850 oC, using CO2 gas. Mineral impurities on activated carbon were washed using acetone and HCl 1.0 M 3 times. Impregnation of Cu metal on activated carbon was carried out using salt precursor of CuCl2·2H2O where Cu was 0.5% then it was reduced at 450 oC using hydrogen gas. Acidity Cu/AC catalyst was tested by ammonia adsorption. The research studied the effect of mass on catalyst and temperature in producing 1,1-dibutoxybutane from nbutanol. Masses of catalyst were varied at 10, 15, and 20 g, and temperature of the process at 300, 350, 400, 450, and 500 oC. Products of the conversion were analyzed using Gas Chromatography (GC), Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) and Carbon-Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (C-NMR). The result showed that metals content in activated carbon decreased after washing by acetone and HCl 1.0 M 3 times. Acidity of the catalyst increased after Cu metal was supported onto activated carbon, i.e from 6,29 to 9,78 mmol g-1. In the temperature range of 300-500 oC, product of conversion of 1,1-dibutoxybutane increased by increasing the temperature. The highest conversion product of 1,1-dibutoxybutane at temperature of 500 oC and mass of catalyst 20 g was 6.73%.
