Synthesis and characterization of biogasoline from castor oil (Ricinus communis L.) have been conducted using Cr-Al2O3/bentonite as the catalyst. Natural clay was activated using H2SO4 in order to obtain H-bentonite. Pillarization conducted using Al13 Keggin ion as pillaring agent. Precursor salt solution Cr(NO3)3•9H2O was impregnated in pillared bentonite samples, followed by calcination and reduction in order to obtain the final catalyst, Cr-Al2O3/bentonite. The catalysts were characterized using infrared spectrometer (FT-IR), X-Ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray Fluorescence spectrometer (XRF) and Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM). Specific surface area, average pore size and total pore volume were analyzed using gas sorption analyzer (BET). The final product was characterized by using GC-MS. The research results showed that bentonite pillarization using aluminum oxide (Al2O3) as Keggin ion increased basal spacing by 1.97 nm with ?d001 by 1.01 nm. Although Cr was uneven dispersed causing a decrease in specific surface area, Cr-Al2O3/bentonite catalyst gives the best biogasoline conversion of 64.03% because it had the highest acid site by 8.26 mmol ammonia/g. The GC-MS data showed that the hydrocracking products contained of acetone, acetic acid, methyl benzene, octane, heptanal, 2-octene, 1-undecanoic acid, 9-octadecenal and 10-undecanoic acid.
