2016 | Skripsi | FMIPAPreparation of Ni/activated carbon as a catalyst for conversion n-butanol into 1,1-dibutoxybutane has been done. Activated carbon was prepared from coconut shell through carbonization and activation using CO2 at 850 ?C. Impurities on activated carbon were cleaned using acetone and 1.0 M HCl. Ni metal was impregnated to activated carbon using wet impregnation method, then reducted using H2. The acidity of Ni/activated carbon was tested by ammonia adsorption. The effects of ratio of catalyst/feed and temperature process in conversion of 1.1-dibutoxybutane were examined. Mass of catalyst used in this study were 10, 15 and 20 gram with constant volume of feed i.e 200 mL, and temperatures of the process 300, 350, 400, 450 and 500 ?C. Products of this conversion was analyzed using Gas Chromatography (GC), then the highest conversion product of 1,1-dibutoxybutane were analyzed using Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) and Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR). The result showed that content of Fe and K metals in activated carbon decreased after using acetone and 1.0 M HCl. The acidity of the catalyst increased after the Ni metal was supported onto activated carbon, i.e from 5.60 to 8.11 mmol gram-1. In the temperature range of 300-500 ?C, product conversion of 1.1-dibutoxybutane increased by increasing the temperature. The highest conversion product of 1.1-dibutoxybutane was 16.9 %, obtained in the mass of catalyst 10 gram and temperature process of 500 ?C.
