SINTESIS HIDROTALSIT Mg/Al DENGAN METODE KOPRESIPITASI DAN APLIKASINYA SEBAGAI ADSORBEN CO2; SYNTHESIS OF HYDROTALCITE Mg / Al BY COPRECIPITATION METHOD AND ITS APPLICATION AS CO2 ADSORBENT

Synthesis of Mg/Al hydrotalcite and its application as CO2 adsorbent has been studied. The Mg/Al hydrotalcite was synthesized at pH 10,0 and Mg/Al molar ratio of 2:1 using co-precipitation method. The synthesized Mg/Al hydrotalcite was characterized by the X-ray diffraction (XRD) and the Fourier transform infra red spectroscopy (FT-IR) as well as surface area determination by BET analysis. The ability of Mg/Al hydrotalcite as adsorbent of CO2 was analyzed using isothermal adsorption with volumetric method. The experiment was conducted by introducing CO2 gas stream into the Mg/Al hydrotalcite at various pressures (1, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, and 30 bar) at room temperature (25 oC). The CO2 adsorption process is also carried out using Mg/Al hydrotalcite calcined at 450 oC and characterized using XRD and FT-IR. The result demonstrated that Mg/Al hydrotalcite was successfully synthesized using co-precipitation method as confirmed by its XRD diffractogram showing the presence of characteristic peaks. Mg/Al hydrotalcite ability to adsorb CO2 increased with pressure. The best approach of isothermal adsorption model for the adsorption of CO2 on Mg/Al was Langmuir model with capacity of adsorption was 2,98 x 10-4 for Mg/Al hydrotalcite and 3,095 x 10-4 for calcined Mg/Al hydrotalcite. The data of energy adsorption showed that the adsorption occured through physical adsorption.
