In order to increase the adsorption capacity of volcanic ash from Gunung Kelud, removing of Ca, Ma and Fe oxides as impurities has been carried out by dissolution method using EDTA-salt solution. This research was initiated by characterization of the volcanic ash using XRD and AAS to find out types of minerals and the chemical composition. Second step was dissolution process of Ca, Mg and Fe oxides from the volcanic ash conducted by stirring suspensions consisting of the volcanic ash and EDTA solution. To obtain maximum result of the dissolution, the effect of concentration of EDTA solution on the result of Ca, Mg and Fe oxides dissolution from volcanic ash has been studied. The concentration of Ca, Ma and Fe dissolved in the EDTA solution were determined by AAS. The results of the research showed that the optimum concentration of EDTA solution was 0,1 M for dissolution volcanic ash that can dissolve Ca 39.94 mg/g, Mg 4.80 mg/g, and Fe 4.16 mg/g. The adsorption Pb(II) ion by volcanic ash was found to be influenced by the contact time and the pH and the optimum time and pH were 60 minutes and 6. Adsorption capacity of volcanic ash increased after dissolution using Na2EDTA solution into 51.55 mg Pb/g- volcanic ash from 23.09 mg Pb/g- volcanic ash.
