Poly(vinyl alcohol) nanofibers can be used for various applications of biotechnology, however it is unstable in water. To overcome those problem, improving the crystallinity by using heat-treatment could be used. In this study, heat-treatment was carried out at four temperatures (110, 135, 150 and 160 °C) for 2 hours. Different temperature of heat-treatment gives different effect on the morphology of PVA nanofibers. After heated at temperature of 110 ºC, there was shrinkage in PVA nanofibers. The average diameter of the nanofibers became 250 ± 30 nm. PVA nanofibers which heated at temperature of 135 ºC became tighter, wrinkled, and curly. The fibers looks sticking and fused each other, with an average diameter of the nanofibers 180 ± 30 nm. Heated at temperature of 150 ºC nanofibers morphology became slightly curly and sticking each other, with an average diameter of the nanofibers 230 ± 40 nm. Meanwhile, heat-treatment at temperature of 160 ºC caused the loss of nanofibers. The fibers became harder, glassy and the color turned to be brown. The degree of crystallinity of PVA nanofibers increases with the increasing temperature of heat-treatment. PVA nanofibers heated at temperature of 135 ºC were stable in the water after one week, but became swollen and sticking each other with average diameter of the nanofibers 350 ± 60 nm.
