Effect of HCl and NaOH treatment on iron sand as the magnetic material has been studied. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of HCl and NaOH treatment on the characteristics of the magnetic material in iron sand covering the crystallinity and magnetic properties. This research can be performed in some steps. First, preparation and treatment of magnetic materials of iron sand by using HCl and NaOH and sonicated for 30 minutes, followed by characterization step. Magnetic materials were separated from iron sand by using a magnet, Then treated with HCl and NaOH. Levels of dissolved elements were analyzed by Atomic absorption spectrophotometer (AAS). Characterizations of magnetic materials in iron sand were carried out by X-Ray fluorescence (XRF), X-ray diffractometer (XRD), Spectrophotometer Fourier Transform Infrared (FT-IR), Vibrating Sample Magnetometer (VSM) and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) equipped with a spectrometer Energy Dispersive X-ray (EDX). Lansilowo iron sand magnetic materials composed of Fe 46.13%, Cr 28.09% and other minor elements. Magnetic materials iron sand which treated by 1,6 M HCl and aquades has higher crystallinity if compared to treatment of NaOH and the magnetic properties were increased compared to without treatment. Magnetic materials iron sand treated with 1 M NaOH and aquades contain higher iron oxide and lower crystallinity compared to the materials which treated by 1,6 M HCl and aquades.
