The effect of irradiation time and pH of reaction in the photofenton process, on the decreasing COD value of laundry wastewater from laundry service at Yogyakarta has been investigated. The research was initiated by determination of COD value and the main components contributing of COD in the wastewater. The next step was photofenton process which was conducted in a closed reactor that was equipped by UV lamp. In the photofenton process, the influences of irradiation time with UV lamp and reaction pH were evaluated. Furthermore, the gradual photofenton process has been conducted in optimum condition obtained. The determination of COD value was performed with titrimetric methods according to SNI.6989.73-2009 procedure. The results of the research show that the laundry wastewater has COD value of 816 mg/L and contains anionic surfactants as main organic compound contributing COD value with the concentration of surfactant is 316 mg/L. Photofenton process could decrease COD value from 816 mg/L up to 256 mg/L at the optimum conditions, with UV irradiation time of 3h and pH 3. The decreasing of COD value of laundry wastewater that fulfill the standard quality value regulated by the government is 125 mg/L, is obtained after 2 steps photofenton processes where it gives final COD value of 64 mg/L and final concentration of surfactant is 1.42 mg/L

Kata Kunci : Photofenton; COD ; laundry wastewater; anionic surfactant
