Utilization of activated banana stem as biosorbent to remove Cu(II) by batch system has been conducted. This research was aimed to determine the effect of biosorbent activation of banana stem in enhancing adsorption capacity, effect of pH of Cu(II) solution on adsorption capacity using activated banana stem and study isoterm adsorption of Cu(II) model using activated banana stem. The research was initiated by preparing inactivated banana stem biosorbent (PP), acid activated banana stem by H3PO4 (PPA) and base activated banana stem by KOH (PPB). The characterization of the obtained powder was performed using Spectrofotometry FT-IR to determine the functional group of biosorbent PP, PPA, PPB. Adsorbed Cu(II) ion was determined using Atomic Absorption Spetroscopy (AAS). FTIR spectra trend at 3410 cm-1 which is assigned as stretching vibration of hidroxyl group (-OH) from cellulose structure. Base activation can enhance adsorption capacity compared to inactivation and acid activation. Optimum adsorption capaciting of Cu(II) were 0.201; 1.672 and 1.788 mg g-1 respectively at pH of 5. Type isotherm biosorbent PP, PPA and PPB appropiate by type Freundlich isotherm, so adsorption of Cu(II) ongoing to physisorption.
