The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of PPI and GLYon the physical and mechanical properties of alginate/palmitic acid film.The films of alginate, palmitic acid with the concentration variation of 0, 5, 10 and 15% (w/w alginate)and plasticizers with the concentration variation of 3, 6, 9, 12, 15 and 18% (w/w alginate) were prepared. The films werecharacterized with FT-IR and UTM for the tensile strength andelongation test. The films were also determined the water vapor transmition rate (WVTR) and biodegradation test with EM4. The result of this study showed that a film which contain 10% palmitic acid and 15% plasticizer had an optimum physical and mechanical properties. Film with PPI as plasticizer showed tensile strength of 11.70 MPa, elongation of 6.39% and WVTR value of 1.33 g mm/(m2 hour).Film with GLY as plasticizer gave tensile strength of 5.08 MPa, elongation of14.72% and WVTR value of 1.13 g mm/(m2 hour).Both films needed 6 days for biodegration. FT-IR spectra showed that new functional grup was not found at this film.
